Must See TV And Movie Downloads: The Sopranos

Let’s say you weren’t interested in this show when it first aired… Well, now’s the time to give it a chance. Better late than never, right? Sopranos is definitely one of the top tv and movie downloads if you want to catch up on what’s been hot for the last ten or so years.

The Sopranos isn’t just a show about gangsters, it’s a show about family, about the unpredictability of life, and most importantly, about the experience of being a human being in a world that throws you nothing but curveballs. The gangster trappings are only the backdrop of the show. The real focus is on Tony and his family and friends, and how they are affected by the life they’ve chosen.

Most crime stories are just crime stories. The Sopranos is a very human show about very real human beings. The crime family thing is a big part of it, but it’s really only the backdrop, it’s what these guys do for a living, it’s not all there is to the show. We can relate to everything the characters on this show go through. We haven’t all been shot by our best friends, but we’ve all been betrayed.

As each season comes, some characters become more unstable and have more and more responsibilities and fears with each new episode. The show is really about the uncertainty and fear in every day life.

You’ve heard about the ending. If you haven’t, we’ll try not to spoil it, but the whole idea of arguing about what it means is sort of behind the point. Life is full of worries and fears and problems, but it just keeps going, there’s no finish line, you just try to do the best you can from day to day.

The Sopranos made some incredible innovations in television. After the reality TV boom, people didn’t want the canned, predictable stuff of fictional TV anymore. David Chase came up with a show that mixed the storytelling of fictional TV with the unpredictability and realism of reality TV. This set the trend for LOST, House M. D. And The Shield, blending the best of both schools of television and creating a whole new style of storytelling.

Just remember, as you watch the series, that there are a lot of unanswered questions. Don’t rack your brain trying to figure everything out, just accept that, like life, the show is confusing and you never really have all the answers.

If the show has a moral to the story, it’s simply that: Life is hard to figure out. You may not be a mafia Don, but you’ll feel like you’re right there with Tony Soprano through his struggles, because it’s a very universal thing. Let the mafia serve as a metaphor for your new management position, or your attempts to keep your own family together, and you’ll find some comfort in Tony’s problems simply because, in the end, we really all go through this stuff, no matter who you are. Life is tricky, and we’ll never figure it all out.

Radical Innovation versus Incremental

Organisations often believe innovation is about doing big, transformational projects that create new revenue or define entirely new product categories. These are initiatives that are usually described by commentators as “radical” or “breakthrough” innovations. They’re typified as being extremely lucrative, assuming one can afford the very substantial risks. In other words, if they succeed, you have an organisation defining hit on your hands, though the chance of this happening is relatively low.

When setting up an innovation programme, executives tend to do so with the expectation they will be getting radical innovation, but usually they don’t want the risk. Practically speaking, this is impossible to achieve in any way with much reliability, and is a principal cause innovation teams get fired.

On the other hand, incremental innovation is much less risky. It looks at what is already being done and improves it in some substantial way. The improvements aren’t often that amazing, and usually have the characteristic of making it easier to charge higher prices, or taking out cost, or expanding market reach. Incremental innovation, done at high volume, has the potential to add materially to the growth of an organisation.

The most sophisticated innovation programmes do projects in both categories in order to balance their risk of failing to achieve meaningful outcomes. The small, incremental innovations balance out the expense of the big failures, at least until the team is lucky enough to get a hit.

In my experience, innovation teams start with “radical” innovation on the expectation they will deliver spectacular benefits in a short time. It quickly becomes clear to stakeholders though that such spectacular benefits are not so close, and may, in fact, not be so spectacular after all. Faced with significant disappointment, they cancel the innovation programme.

Trap for new players: avoid the temptation to focus on radical innovation at the beginning, and your innovation programme will live to fight another day. By concentrating at the start to a significant degree on incremental innovation, you will give yourself time to build basic capabilities which will come to the fore when you start doing more strategic work.
